Pentrehafod School is a thriving community focused school that has served a wide area of Swansea East since 1976. We are an inclusive school providing a wide range of opportunities, both within and beyond the curriculum, in a caring and supportive environment. Achievement of all kinds is valued and celebrated. I am very privileged to be the Headteacher of Pentrehafod School and am fully committed to the school as it continues to raise standards and create the best provision for all our young people.
In the summer of 2016 our year 11 students achieved the best Level 2 and Level 2+ results in the history of the school. This is the fourth year in succession that results have improved. Whole school attendance, Level 1 results and capped points score were also records for the school. We are immensely proud of our students and wish them well in their future careers. They have firmly established a culture of expectation and a commitment to achieving academic success.
There is much more to Pentrehafod School than exam success: we endeavour to ensure that every student receives a holistic experience. When students leave us we expect them to be happy, ethical and enterprising citizens. In the sporting arena our students excel, with most of our boys’ football teams either winning or reaching the finals in the local competitions. We value music and drama and are investing in this area.
Our school was the first in Wales to be awarded ‘School of Sanctuary’ status. This award reaffirms the school’s reputation for care and support in our immediate and extended community. We continue our close links with Matuwa School in Zambia and our students sponsor their students through a scholarship to remain in education. Staff visited Zambia in July 2015 and we are hopeful that our link will continue to develop further.
The new School Parliament aims to maximise student voice, ensuring that we really do create leaders for the future.
If you have not visited the school in a while you will notice a number of changes in the culture and appearance of the school. At present we are working with the Local Authority and Planners with a view to completing full refurbishment. This will be a phased project which will result in a state-of the-art school by 2018. Staff and students have made significant contributions to this work in order to ensure the school is a positive learning environment throughout the ‘Build’ and for the future.
Thank you for taking the time to read our prospectus and if you require further information then please do not hesitate to contact the school.
