Connecticut Visitors at Pentrehafod School
Three American teachers from Connecticut visited the school on behalf of ERW as part of their research into restorative approaches in Welsh schools. Kari Baransky teaches sixth grade math, Stacy Folcik teaches sixth grade writing and Lynda Thornton teaches sixth grade reading. They work at the same inner city urban middle school located in the middle of their state of Connecticut. Their school has eight hundred and fifty students spread across three grade levels: sixth, seventh and eighth. They hope to strengthen their own school systems by adopting and embedding preventative approaches to school discipline.
During their visit, they had the opportunity to observe a lesson which focused on the UNCRC Rights of the Child, along with a presentation on Children’s Rights by the Student Parliament. They were extremely complimentary of the welcome they received, the behaviour of the children and the facilities and provisions that our students have access to.
The Student Parliament hope to keep in touch with representatives from this school in the future.
