Covid 19 – Head Teacher’s Update – 1st June 2020
Dear Parent/Carer,
Today we should be beginning our final half term of this academic year but we are now entering the
eleventh week of Lockdown. Thank you for the support you have shown us during this challenging
period. I fully understand that not being able to send your son/daughter to school places a huge
strain on you at home; I can honestly say, I am really looking forward to the school returning to
normal. We continue to miss our students very much.
Pentrehafod continues to be open for Emergency Child Care; all parents and carers are
advised that this provision should ONLY be used when there is no other alternative available
and that you need to use this service because you are a Key Worker. We do ask that you
contact the school to let us know when you need this provision so we can staff it
accordingly.
Please remember that whilst the school is only open for Emergency Child Care, staff on
reception are available to deal with your queries. Please email or ring reception.
Online working
As you are aware, we have used our website as a base to direct students to a variety of
work and this is proving to be a useful tool. Thank you to those parents/cares who have
rang in with queries regarding HWB Teams; please see the useful online guides on our
website as they are designed to support you. Please could you continue to encourage your
son/daughter to continue with their study habits; they can email their class teacher directly
with subject queries if they do not understand the work.
Some of you have got in touch with us regarding the need for a digital device at home. We have
issued loan laptops and can continue to do so. Please contact your son/daughter’s Learning Leader if
this is something that would help your child. Please do let us know if you would like paper copies of resources as we can deliver these to you.
Empathy School
We are also an Empathy School and there is a section on our website called EmapthyLab.
Please encourage your son/daughter to read as widely as possible. If they prefer to listen to
books there are now a wide range of books available to download for free (many sites have
chosen to do this now that schools are closed).
June 9th is National Empathy Day – more on this to come. Please check our website.
Free School Meal update
Swansea has now moved to a fortnightly Bank transfer system and the majority of our families are
using this system. However, there is still the option to choose a weekly food parcel. If there are any
issues please contact the school.
When will we be returning to school?
As I am writing this update there is no current date for the return to school in Wales. However, we
are expecting some communication this week so please check the website and twitter for any
updates.
We hope that it isn’t too long before we can welcome our students back,
Take care and keep safe
Jennifer Ford
