Pupil Language Ambassador Conference 2018

Eight Year 9 pupils were selected to attend the ERW Pupil Language Ambassador Conference on Thursday 1st February at Swansea University’s new Bay Campus. Over 300 pupils from 44 schools from 6 counties attended.
The focus of the day was “being bilingual +1”, how important it is to speak more than just your native language and how useful languages will be in the future.
We attended workshops on languages with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), how studying languages can provide global opportunities like living, studying and working abroad and we also did a Mandarin taster session, which was great fun!
We heard from university students, engineers, researchers, Tonia Antoniazzi MP and BBC reporter Huw Edwards on why they chose to study languages and the impact that being bilingual or multilingual has had on them.
It was a really inspiring day and pupils from Pentrehafod were impeccably behaved and actively participated in all sessions. They’ll be using their Pupil Language Ambassador training to hopefully start some language-based clubs and activities later in the year.
