Options – Transition to Key Stage Four
Before the end of Year 8 you will have completed your Key Stage 3 National Curriculum courses and will start Key Stage 4 early. Now is the time to consider which option courses you wish to study.
In Key Stage 4 some subjects still remain compulsory. All students must take English, Maths, Science, Welsh, and the Welsh Baccalaureate at Intermediate or Foundation Level. PE and RE are also statutory with the potential for all students to gain at least a short course qualification in RE.
The remaining three subjects are selected from the various option blocks. It is a difficult decision to make. Not only will the courses you decide to take determine the work you do in school but they could also influence your career possibilities. At the moment you may not be sure about the work you eventually want to do. Even if you do know you may change your mind over the next few years. It does make extremely good sense for you to choose a range of subjects that will give you a flexible and balanced course.
The way we have arranged the core subjects helps you to do this. Please click this link to see the full Year 8 Options Booklet.
