Students’ Welcome

Dear Parents, Carers, and Students

At Pentrehafod School, our conduct is ‘Ready, Resilient, Respectful and Safe’ which is promoted throughout our school journey. We are a school where all pupils are able to thrive and become the best they can be. Pentrehafod supports students and determines them to push themselves to achieve beyond their limits.

Pentrehafod is the first secondary school in Wales to gain the UNICEF Level 2 Rights Respecting Award; the highest level obtainable. It is an award everyone in the school is proud of and we translate this through our attitude towards our peers and teachers. This means that both staff and pupils alike have a thorough understanding of child rights, and this is something that we take great pride in as a school. Pentrehafod school is the only school which is a School of Sanctuary and as a community we take great pride in this.

Furthermore, this past year our Year 11's achieved some of the highest grades in the school's history, which shows the constant upwards trajectory all our peers and teachers paid into. Our school continues to make constant improvements towards providing the best education and support to all students. Our teachers’ continued efforts in supporting us; through teaching us in ways we understand and providing us with the opportunity to attend extra classes is what this upwards trend of success is down to.

Student voice has always been an integral aspect of life at Pentrehafod. 6 years ago, our school created a Pupil Voice system which is called ‘Student Parliament’; this encourages pupils of all ages and abilities to share their views and thoughts about our school. Every student who walks through our doors is reminded of their ability to make a change and let themselves be heard at Pentrehafod.

The recent refurbishment of the whole school has been an exciting time for all of us. This build has enabled us to maximize our abilities and be who we are in lessons and outside the classroom for events such as sports clubs, performing arts shows and many more. This improvement has pushed us forward as a school and solidify our determination for success.

In addition, we enjoy particularly strong links with our partner primary schools, and this is complemented by the extensive programmes that take place at Pentrehafod for local pupils nearing the end of their primary education. We aim for our student role models to travel to our partner schools to encourage a high ambition attitude for when students arrive at Pentrehafod. We want to make every child feel welcome and safe at Pentrehafod and join our community to make their secondary school experience excellent.

Pentrehafod has a proud tradition of producing and supporting talented sportsmen and women; with several pupils boasting international honors in their respective sports. We also enjoy frequent success through local competitions in sports such as netball, football and rugby. For example, our Year 10 Boys team last year went all the way and won the Swansea School’s Division A title.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our school website and read this student view.

Yours sincerely,

Student Parliament.
