Young Interpreters

Students have received training to become Young Interpreters. Our Young Interpreters help to support new arrivals to our school. As the first school in Wales to be awarded School of Sanctuary status it is important to us that our school community help to provide a warm welcome and are supportive to new arrivals from outside the UK to our school. The Young Interpreters have learned about the skills which are needed to be a Young Interpreter such as having empathy for the new arrival who may understand very little English or Welsh; being proactive to look out for and support new arrivals within the school environment. Many of our Young Interpreters speak another language other than English or Welsh but students can still become a Young Interpreter it they only speak English or Welsh.

Pentrehafod is proud to have such caring young people as part of our school community. We will continue to train more students to become Young Interpreters.
