Welcome to Transition

Dear Parent/Carer,

As the Headteacher of Pentrehafod School, I am delighted to welcome you and your child to our school community. We are thrilled that you have chosen Pentrehafod as the next step in your child’s educational journey. With the school being oversubscribed this year, securing a place for September 2026 is fantastic news, and we are excited to support your child as they embark on this new chapter.

We understand that transitioning from primary to secondary school is a significant milestone - one filled with both excitement and a few understandable nerves. Our priority this process is as smooth and supportive as possible, providing all the information and guidance needed to help your child settle in with confidence.

At Pentrehafod, we place great emphasis on both academic and pastoral support, ensuring every pupil feels valued and encouraged to thrive. Education extends far beyond the classroom, and we are proud to offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities to enrich pupils' experiences. Whether it’s joining a sports team, taking part in music and drama productions, engaging with our health and wellbeing opportunities, or even exploring creativity in our Minecraft Club, there is something for everyone. These activities help pupils develop new skills, build confidence, and form lasting friendships.

We are unashamedly ambitious for all our pupils, no matter their starting point. Our school-wide focus is to help every individual ‘Be the Best That They Can Be’ (Article 29). As an inclusive and supportive school, we provide a diverse range of opportunities both within and beyond the curriculum. Our high expectations for behaviour, based on our core values of Ready, Respectful, Resilient, and Safe, have helped us build a strong and thriving school community.

Partnership between school and home is key to ensuring success. We are committed to keeping you informed through regular newsletters, parent-teacher meetings, Class Charts, and our Online Reporting System. In September, we will share details on how to sign up for the Parent Apps - please ensure you register so that you stay up to date. We also encourage you to be actively involved in school life by attending events and engaging with the school community.

We believe in celebrating all forms of achievement. Whether it’s strong academic outcomes, participation in school parliament (Senedd Pentrehafod), representing the school in sports and performing arts, or contributing to community initiatives like our Empathy club, we take pride in recognising pupils' successes. Our Empathy Club, for example, supports local charities, prepares food hampers, and shares recipes through our community cupboard.

As a school, we are exceptionally proud of our pastoral care. Our HAFAN wellbeing centre is led by a dedicated team of non-teaching wellbeing officers, providing tailored support to pupils whenever they need it. Creating a nurturing and positive environment is at the heart of what we do, ensuring that every pupil feels safe and supported. During the summer term, key staff from Pentrehafod School will be visiting primary schools to meet our future pupils, helping to ease the transition process. We look forward to welcoming your child in September 2026 and working together to make their journey at Pentrehafod a happy and successful one.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Best Wishes, Mrs L J Carroll Headteacher
