Year 9 Options 2026

Here you will find information about the options process and the subjects available for year 9 2026. We will adding more documentation as it is made available.

Options invitation letter

 Dear Parent/Carer, 

We would like to invite you to our Year 9 Options Evening on Thursday 29th January, from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm. 

Following parent feedback from last year we have decided to adopt a more flexible approach this year. The evening will take a ‘drop in’ format; there will be no requirement to arrange timed appointments or attend formal presentations, giving you the flexibility to arrive at a time that suits you. You will have the chance to: 

  • Speak with option subject teachers and our Careers Advisor from Careers Wales, Mrs Nicola Edwards 

  • Ask questions 

  • Find out more about the option subjects that are available 

We are hoping that this approach will allow more time for more bespoke conversations and advice. Resources and information will also be available on the school website. 

Although there will be no formal presentation to commence the evening, members of the Senior Leadership Team will be available in the Atrium should you wish to talk about the options process in more general terms. 

There will also be a Year 9 Parents Evening two weeks after the Options Evening on Thursday 12th February, from 3.30-6.00pm. During this event you will have the opportunity to: 

  • Find out more about the progress of your child across all subjects 

  • Discuss in more detail any questions you may have about option choices (although opportunity for this might be more limited) 

  • Speak with our Careers Advisor, Mrs Nicola Edwards 

It is important to note that this is the beginning of the options process. Pupils will not be expected to make their final choices until late spring. At this stage, the aim is for you and your child to have the opportunity to learn more about the subjects we offer at Pentrehafod School and consider whether they match your child’s ambitions and interests.
